Cookie Policy
Which cookies and similar technologies AbroadMaster uses, what each one is for, and how you turn them on or off. Nothing outside the strictly necessary category loads until you say yes.

At a glance
A plain summary. The full text below is what actually applies.
- What loads before you choose
- Strictly necessary cookies only. Nothing analytics or advertising related runs until you actively allow it.
- Rejecting
- Exactly as easy as accepting, in the same banner, with no follow-up nagging. Declining is not penalised.
- If you decline advertising
- You still see ads, they are just non-personalised. Declining analytics means the script is never loaded at all.
- How long your choice lasts
- 12 months, after which we ask again. You can change it at any time from the footer or section 7.
To change your mind right now, use section 7 or the cookie preferences link in the footer of every page.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. “Similar technologies”, such as local storage, session storage and pixels, do comparable jobs, and everything in this policy applies to those too.
2. How consent works here
On your first visit, Accept all and Reject all sit side by side as identical buttons: same size, same styling, same prominence, so rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting, as the GDPR requires. A third option, Manage preferences, opens the per-category controls.
- Until you make a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are set. No analytics or advertising cookie is written, and no advertising or measurement script is loaded.
- Your choice is stored on your device for 12 months, along with the time you made it, after which we ask again.
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time; see section 7.
- Closing the banner without choosing is not treated as consent. Continuing to browse is not treated as consent either.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These make the site work. They cannot be switched off, and they do not require consent because the service cannot be delivered without them.
| Purpose | Set by | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication session: keeps you signed in | Supabase Auth (first party) | Session to 30 days |
| Cookie consent record: remembers this decision | AbroadMaster (first party, local storage) | 12 months |
| Theme preference: light or dark | AbroadMaster (first party, local storage) | Persistent until cleared |
| Intro animation timestamp: stops the opening animation replaying if you come back within a few minutes | AbroadMaster (first party, session storage) | Until the tab closes |
| Security, rate limiting and bot protection | Cloudflare | Up to 12 months |
| Form anti-bot check: proves a person, not a script, submitted the contact or data request form | Cloudflare Turnstile | Cleared when you close the browser |
4. Analytics cookies: consent required
Used to understand, in aggregate, which countries, visa guides and features people actually use, so we know what to build and what to fix. We do not use analytics data to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with your eligibility profile.
If you decline, the analytics script is not loaded at all; it is not merely set to a “do not track” mode.
5. Advertising cookies: consent required
AbroadMaster displays advertising, including Google AdSense, to keep the Eligibility Checker, country guides and community free. Google and its partners may set cookies to:
- measure ad impressions, clicks and performance
- limit how many times you see the same ad
- detect invalid or fraudulent traffic
- personalise ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites, only where you have consented
If you decline this category, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised: served on page content rather than on a profile of you.
Sponsored placements are always labelled
6. Third-party cookies we may set
| Provider | Category | More information |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdSense | Advertising | Google advertising technologies · Google Ads Settings · My Ad Center |
| Cloudflare | Strictly necessary | Cloudflare privacy policy |
| Supabase | Strictly necessary | Supabase privacy policy |
7. Changing your choices
Open the preferences panel at any time, from the button below, from the “Cookie preferences” link in the site footer, or from this page's header.
Withdrawing consent stops the relevant scripts from loading on your next page view. Cookies already set by a third party can also be cleared from your browser settings.
8. Browser-level controls
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a “clear site data” option for a single site. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and may prevent parts of AbroadMaster from working.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add a new cookie category or a new advertising partner, we update this page and reset stored consents, so you are asked again rather than opted in silently. Questions: privacy@abroadmaster.com. See also the Privacy Policy.
